Soooo many Lessons

This week was so busy-- full of cats and lesson!!! Sister Bambrough and I were super motivated... we ended the week with 32 lessons :) (we exceeded our goal of 26 big time!!!) We were so excited and dead tired...... hahah

SO we are BOTH staying in Franklin!!!!! Which is fantastic!!! We are so excited! All we have to do now is help some of our wonderful investigators actually progress :) One of the assistants texted us to tell us that we were both staying with this transfer! We texted back a “thanks” and expressed how excited we were (well tried too..haha) and the text we got back from him simply said "Baptize!" haha guess its time for the rest of Franklin now!

This week we went on splits with some women in the ward!! This is actually the first time I have ever done it, and it was a first for the Franklin Ward too :) It was so much fun! Sister Bambrough and I were both able to teach 2 lessons each with the members we were with. It was so exciting!! We had 4 lessons in 2 hours!!!! The women in this ward are fantastic! I love how willing they are to support us :) Now splits with the sisters will be  a weekly event!

We had an awesome lesson with Rene and her family this week! Her grandma actually had us over for dinner (even made baked, not fried chicken so I coul dactually eat it! She is too sweet!) During the lesson Rene told us that she wanted to be baptized! She said that the church that she is currently going to doesn’t believe in baptism-- but that she has always wanted to be baptized! Too bad she is out of town until Saturday. Her grandma said the choice to be baptized is up to her. We also asked her grandma if she wanted to be baptized... she said she had to think about it... but she sounded sincere. We are also going to start teaching some of Rene's cousins.. we are super excited!!!!!

I think that is all of the SUPER exciting stuff for this week- it would take WAY to long to share everything.. so that is all :)

The Fleeners get Baptized !

This week was CRAZY. CRAZY GOOD! We were so busy! Everyday had something! Monday was preparation day and we helped a family move! Tuesday was our district meeting. Then on Wednesday, we spent all day in Seymour on an exchange and Thursday we had our 3 hours of weekly planning and then on Friday we had Mission Leadership Council from 10-4. That is where all of the Sister Trainer Leaders and all of the Zone Leaders meet with President Cleveland and the assistants. Then on Saturday we got to go to Muttie and Sue Fleener’s baptism in CARMEL!!!!!!!!!! It was fantastic! AND THEN on Sunday, Doris, I mean Sister Bennett ;) spoke at the “Why I Believe Fireside” in downtown Indy. So-- crazy week and we still got to teach a lot!!!! I am exhausted, but it was fantastic!!!

So now the best part..... story time!!!!

We got a new investigator, Rene, this week! Her grandma is Janet-- the one whose husband just died and we have been trying to teach for forever now! But anyways, Rene is 16 years old and lives with Janet, so when we went she was there and wanted to sit down with us. She wanted to learn more. Janet would try to change the subject and talk about her problems and the whole time Rene was like "I want to learn more!" She ended up coming to church on Sunday and LOVED IT! An awesome family with a daughter her age picked her up and took her home. She said she wants to keep learning more! We are so excited to teach her-- and talk about baptism at our lesson on Tuesday :) Rene Rocks!

We also got another new investigator this week- Gisselle! She actually has been taught by the elders since September, but it wasn’t going much of anywhere, so our ward mission leader asked us to teach her! She comes to church almost every week, she has read the entire Book of Mormon and actually started it over again and she wants to be baptized. The only thing holding her back is she doesn’t feel like she is prepared enough (biggest LIE ever!!) So we are going to work with her to help her feel more prepared and hopefully give her a date this week as well!! She actually has really good friends in Utah that introduced her to the church. Actually, one of them may or may not be David Archuletta, who is probably going to be the one to baptize her... WHAT!!!!! :D

AND THEN! We got to go to Muttie and Sue Fleener’s Baptism this week!!! I so wish that my camera would let me load the picture, but it is being so silly today.... but they totally didn’t even know that I was coming. Sister Wilde was so sweet to drive us up!!! (in her red convertible Mustang... these sisters have style ;) The look on their faces when we saw them was priceless!!!! They were so excited! Their baptism was fantastic! They left their church of 50 years to come and to be baptized. They are now working towards the temple! It was an awesome day!!!

J came to church!!! It was the first time since we started teaching her that she came!!!!! She brought her less-active ex-mother-in-law too :) So it was a good day at church. She has been struggling a lot with smoking, but she didn't have to smoke at all the 3 hours that she was at church. However, she did bring her a big ol’ thing of sweet tea!! Haha a member asked if she had something delicious and she said "Yup-It's sweet tea- but you can't have any, it’s not allowed." Hahaha too funny!!!!

J was also super sweet and she told me that if Sister Missionaries were Nuns that I would be the biggest and the Numbness Nun (too bad she meant nunnest... there was a lot of laughter!)

Doris Bennett is just fantastic!! She got a calling this week to be the Ward Historian. (I am not sure exactly what that is but apparently they had been praying to find someone who could do it and then Doris got baptized!!) She also shared her story when she spoke at the “Why I Believe” fireside last night! She was so fantastic!!!! By far the best speaker of the night, but then again, I guess I am pretty biased ;) It is so amazing to see how Heavenly Father puts exactly whom we need into our lives when we need them :)

I am so grateful for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I know that Heavenly Father loves each and everyone of us. He knows us individual. That is what this is all about. Coming closer to Christ and coming to know our Savior better. Finding joy in this life and preparing to live with God again.

Doris Gets Baptized !

This week was amazing!!!! DORIS GOT BAPTIZED!!! She took the plunge ;) Her brother who is 16 years younger than her drove to Franklin with his family all night so he could baptize and confirm her! She said she was pretty sure her brother introduced her to the church so he could publicly "dunk" her- she said it was the perfect little brother's revenge. Hahahah.  But on a more spiritual note, the baptism was awesome! I think almost everyone was in tears by the end of it! The spirit was strong- just another testimony to me that this church is true and that Heavenly Father loves all of His children. The spirit is such a sweet confirmation of His love and His care for all of us.

We also found 4 new investigators this week!!! It was pretty exciting! One of them was a complete miracle! We had an appointment scheduled with one of our investigators on Saturday evening and she canceled on us last minute. Sister Wilde was coming with us-- and she was amazing and said that she would go wherever we needed to go- that even though the investigator canceled she was still willing to go out with us! So as we followed through with our backup plans we decided to go and see a potential investigator named BJ that we had met with about 6 weeks ago and hadn’t been able to get into contact with since. We had stopped by her home a couple times earlier in the week and she hadn't been there. BUT SHE WAS HOME!!!! She let us right in. We had left her a copy of the Book of Mormon and invited her to read it after the first time we met with her and taught her about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Come to find out, she was already in the Book of Helaman!!!!! and she wants to come to church :) She will be out of town for a little bit-- but we were so grateful that we were able to get in contact with her again and set up another appointment!!!! We are excited for BJ’s spiritual journey :)

Nothing else to terribly exciting happened this week- funny story though- Sister Bambrough and I totally slept on couches in a kitchen this week on exchanges. How random!

This week was fantastic!!!! Will and Artie and Malichi were all baptized!!!!! And confirmed. Their baptism was awesome!! Their dad, who just started investigating the church last week got up at the end of the baptism and bore his testimony on how much it meant to him that his boys were baptized and how much it touched him to hear his boys pray! Bill actually came to church on Sunday (got it off work to see his boys confirmed!!) and has been reading the Book of Mormon. Things are going so well with this family!!! We are so excited for their family to prepare to go to the temple together!!!!!

 

Doris is doing fantastic as usual!! She passed her interview :) So things are in high gear for her baptism this Saturday! She is just fantastic! I wish I could give every companionship around the world an investigator just like Doris. She is so prepared and while not every commitment has been easy for her to accept, she has accepted them with full faith that the Lord will provide a way for her to keep all of his commandments! She told us this week that she just cant wait to have a calling so that she can serve the members around her and so that she can be more a part of the ward. She is just wonderful!!

 

Sister Bambrough and I are looking forward to a week full of finding new investigators!!! I guess having most of your progressing investigators get baptized is a pretty good problem to have :)

AND I am a terrible person and forgot my camera in all of the hubbub of emailing not on preparation day with the holiday... so baptism pictures next week!!!!

Whoot! Whoot! We're gonna have a baptism or three

This week was CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! Zone conference, GOING TO THE TEMPLE!!!, an exchange and a baptismal interview!!!! PLUS we also met our goal of 21 lessons and had 11 member presents!!!!

Best news of the week: Malichi, Will and Artie all passed their baptismal interview!!!!!!!! SO EXCITING!!! So next week these boys are getting baptized!! Their mom was so proud to announce their baptism to everyone in Relief Society! We had told a boy in the ward that they were coming, so he could invite them to class. Right after sacrament meeting was over, he ran up and snatched them and made sure they all ended up where they were suppose to go!! Best part was they all LOVED church! These boys have grown so much in the gospel. All of them now read everyday, and they are to the point now where they don't even have to be reminded! It is neat to see how much joy the gospel has brought to their lives and how they are able to recognize that joy!! Heavenly Father truly prepared a plan of happiness for all of His Children!

Doris is just doing fantastic as well! She is as excited about the gospel as ever. Her situation with her husband right now is a little tricky. He is basically anti- religion. At first he was not excited at all that she was meeting with us and coming to church and such. Doris has been praying that her husband would see the change in her and that he would be more receptive and that her church attendance would have his approval. Yesterday her told her that he can tell that this really makes her happy and that he wants her to keep going, so she can be happy. We are so proud of Doris, she is so strong!! There is nothing that will stop her!

When I had the opportunity to call home, I was reminded by my family that my nick-name is most often "chatter-box." Well at zone conference during lunch, President Cleveland sat down and chatted for a few minutes with me and my companion. I had had just a couple bits of lunch and Sister Bambrough's was already gone! Presidents' first comment to us was "Boy we can sure see who does the talking in this companionship" we laughed. It’s probably true.

I have a new companion!!! It is Sister Bambrough! Sorry we have been lame and not taken a picture together, but I love her :) We actually LIVED together in Warsaw. She is wonderful! It is fun to actually be companions now! This is her first transfer as a sister trainer leader... so I guess I am suppose to show her the ropes or something like that :) We are excited for an awesome transfer... with hopefully 4 baptisms ;) that is at least ;) hahah

 

The biggest miracle this week was Malichi. Malichi is Will and Artie's best friend and next door neighbor.... for some background, also an 11 year old boy :). Will and Artie have been telling Malichi about every thing they learn and he actually came to church last Sunday. We sat down and invited him to learn more. That lesson we were teaching some of the commandments and going over the interview questions. At the end of the lesson Malichi announced that he would like to be baptized as well!!!!! So right now we are working on getting permission from the bishop! But hopefully Malichi will have the opportunity to be baptized with Will and Artie. Sadly they were not able to come to church on Sunday. So now their baptismal date will be the 24th-- makes for a pretty memorable memorial day weekend :) I am grateful for Will and Artie's excitement about the gospel and for their willingness to share it with their best friend!!

 

Doris is doing fantastic!!! She came to church this week and LOVED it!! She asked lots of questions in gospel principles class and got to say hello to all of her friends. I just love how fired up she is about the gospel and how willing she is to share everything that she has learned. Doris live on about 3 acres of land that is mostly grass. So we went and helped her mow on Saturday!! Her riding lawn mower was REALLY FUN.... and it was fun to serve her :) She is reading everyday and just loving the gospel! It is so exciting to see the change in her countenance- and the joy that she is now experiencing!

 

We were also able to meet with Theresa this week- which I told you about last week- the one who came and asked us to learn more when we were parked outside of her house! Well she is also just loving the gospel! She is reading the Book of Mormon. We were able to teach the entire restoration lesson to her last week.... it took a few lessons, she is a talker :) She said she loves it because it just makes sense :) She was raised in another religion but doesn't agree with most of it.  She said she isn't excited to wear a dress to church but that she is excited to sit on cushioned pews! So next week she should be there! It is amazing how the Lord has prepared all of these people for us to teach!!

 

We are keeping REALLY BUSY!!! I love it!!! There is hardly time to even think about what we are doing next!! This week we have zone conference and then on Friday we are going to the temple! It is going to be so exciting!!

Inspired Parking

Now I know you are all just dying to know... so here is the transfer verdict! I am staying in Franklin (yay!) and Sister Bowen is leaving (boo). Bu,t I will get another fantastic sister who will be a Sister Trainer Leader with me. It shall be an adventure. One of the perks of this assignment is you always get a super solid companion!!!

 

So this week was amazing!! As usual :) We were able to extend baptismal dates to a few more investigators and we also found some fun new investigators!! So many good things are going on in Franklin right now!!

 

Doris is doing fantastic!! She is reading from the Book of Mormon still and she is doing all of the other "assignments" that we give her as well! She loves it! She is going through quite a bit with her husband right now- she is not sure if he will ever be able to come home again and if he did come home if she would be able to take care of him. He is beginning to decline mentally also and she is having to make a really tough decisions that aren't making him too happy. We were able to have lessons with her this week in the Wilde's and in the Oliver's homes. Which was wonderful because they love her and she loves them!! Doris said that she has noticed a change in herself since she has started meeting with us, that she feels happier and that she has more peace. She said that her challenges seems so much easier to handle now. It is amazing what the gospel does for us, the changes that it brings about in individuals. It is amazing!! Sadly she wasn't able to make it to church this week cause she caught a bug on Sunday:(

 

Then there is Will and Artie!! They are 10 and 11 year old brothers. There mom has been less active for years, but just finished the Book of Mormon and has been back at church for almost 2 months now. On Wednesday, we invited Will and Artie to be baptized!! They both said YES!!! They will be baptized on May 17th! We are so excited for them :) We talked quite a bit about Joseph Smith with them this week and they loved him. We asked after we talked about the first vision how they felt and what they were thinking. Their responses were "peace and happiness" and "faith". I just love how excited this family is about the gospel!

 

We met with Jeanine a few times this week and she is progressing... wasn't able to make it to church due to back pain, but I am pretty sure she will come soon. Yesterday, she made us a cake just because. I love how much love this woman has for all of those people in her life. She will do anything for her family!!! She is truly amazing. This week we are going to help her begin the process of giving up smoking.... it should be an adventure!!

 

So now here is the best story of all for this week. It was Saturday afternoon and Sister Bowen and I had a ton of phone calls to make. We had about an hour and a half before dinner and we had a bunch of potential investigators that we felt like we neeed to go check up on too. So we went to a neighborhood where we knew we could stay busy, but we decided that first we should make some of the phone calls that we needed to. We were in our car for about 45 minutes and the people in the house closest to where we parked kept going in and out of their house. We didn't think too much of it.  We thougth they might think we looked a little bit  like creeps. We were wrapping things up, getting ready to get out of the car when the woman from the house we were parked by backed out and then rolled over to where we were and rolled down her window. The conversation went a little bit like this:

"Are you girls alright?"

"Yes we are fine"

"You are not lost or anything are you?"

"No we aren't, but that you for asking, we are just making a few calls."

"Oh gotcha, well are you relators then?"

"No, haha we are actually Missionaries!"

"Oh No WAY! Does that mean you get to go to other countries and help and stuff?

"Haha that would be fun, but no- we are Misisonaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So basically we teach people about Christ and how to come closer to him."

"No- way, I was looking for a church!" .........

We ended up talking to Theresa for 20 more minutes, car to car and then we had an appointment with her Sundaymorning. She is fantastic!! She has a lot of questions, but she is looking for more in her life right now. She is excited to read the Book of Mormon. She told us yesterday that she is not sure if she wants to convert, but that she wants to learn more for sure! So now the big joke is that the people we teach come find us ;) that and inspired parking!

!! There are just so many exciting things happening right now in Franklin! I am sad Sister Bowen is leaving- so grateful for the time I have had with her and the many adventures :)
